The History of Alfross Leonbergers

Alfross Leonbergers was founded in 1990,the first being Inga (Xilya the Wraith at Alfross),one of only 150 in this country at the time closely followed by the arrival by Fiscus (Guildasan Careless Whisper at Alfross) .

Fiscus won many Best of Breeds, mostly in 1992 and Best in Show that year at the Leonberger Club Show. He was one of the first Leonbergers to pass A and B in water rescue work. He also worked well at carting and obedience classes.

Inga and Fiscus produced the first Leonberger guide and hearing dogs to be be successfully trained in this country.

Zeeta produced a litter in 1997 which included Acer(Alfross Destinies Dream) She achieved third place at Crufts in 1999 and was suuccessful in open shows around the country with many wins.

Acer’s first litter produced Otto (Alfross Acers Abracadabra) , who achieved success with wins at open shows and was Best Puppy at Crufts in 2000. Otto also excels at carting and has achieved levels 1 and 2. Otto is still shown and enjoys the attention he receives in the Leonberger Discover Dogs stand at Crufts.

Acer produced a second litter in 2001 from which we have Kia ( Alfross Acers Dragon), one of 13 puppies,. Kia is a very strong character but does not enjoy attending shows and is content to spend her time at Alfross.

We also have brought in new lines at Alfross, the first being Barak ( Dragongardens Akta Alvis) in 2000. Barak is a Swedish and Finnish champion and was offered to us by his breeder Ms Petra Junehall from Sweden. He has been shown around the country and won Best Dog at championship Shows. Petra showed him at Crufts in 2002 and won the first Leonberger Championship Certificate ever in Great Britain.

Lightning arrived in 2001 as an 8 month old puppy and has been a great asset, winning shows as Best Puppy and Best Bitch. She excelled herself at the Leonberger Show in 2002,winning Best in Show.

Heidi came to us from South Wales in 2002 as aged 7 months and has won first or second in her class at every show she has attended.

Last year was special for us as Shoulagan produced a litter of 10 puppies sired by Barak.

One of the litter which was offered and accepted for training as a guide dog. We also have kept a dog ,Dexter (Alfross Shoulagans Radulphus) who won Best Puppy Dog at the first three shows he attended.

Also,at Alfross we have two rescued dogs,Gemma and Tuscan both of whom seem to settled down to life here.

Carol began her interest in horses from the age of 4 years , and was Carriage Driving from the age of 18 untill 1994 , she was one of the first to drive three Shetland ponies three-abreast, and with her Father , weddings with a pair or Welsh Cobs , she continues to ride Likeryspit, her American Quarter Horse.

Her previous involvement in dogs was with Bern's and Rotties, but more in the working side , but always as family pets
